SUMMER READING

This year's theme is "Build a Better World" and we have a full calendar of events for children and parents to enjoy. Our program will run from June 12th to August 12th. Once you have done some reading, you will be eligible for a variety of drawings at the library. Please deposit your tickets in our drawing box. Winners will be posted in the library. Please check for you name each time you come into the library. Last date to pick up drawing prizes is August 19th.

Schedule of Events:

June 12, Monday - Registration begins and there is a HOT DOG ROAST from 11:30 - 5:30 PM.  Get a hot dog for signing up and a drink for checking out a book.

June 20, Tuesday - THE WORLD IN OUR HANDS PROGRAM from 2:00 - 3:00 PM. Bob Kanegis, renowned storyteller and musician from New Mexico, will perform stories and songs that celebrate friendship, cooperation, courage, and creativity.

June 21, Wednesday - ICE CREAM SOCIAL AND BUM RUM IN THE PARK from 5:00 - 8:00 PM.  In connection with the Methodist Church, we are offering free ice cream during their event.  Look for us at the concession stand in the park.  There will be games in the park, a bounce house, car show, silent auction, and food.  Children who participate in the kid's run will get a special prize.

June 26, Monday - I SPY CONSTRUCTION - Anytime during the day, come into the library, ask the librarians for a construction sheet and then locate the hidden construction items in the library.  If you find them all, you will get a prize.

June 28, Wednesday - HOME DEPOT BUILD IT WORKSHOP - FROM 2:00-3:00 PM for ages 5-11.  Home Depot staff will bring construction kits for the children to build with their assistance.  A fun time will be had by all.  The workshop is limited to the first 50 children who show up for the program.

July 3-4, Monday and Tuesday - LIBRARY CLOSED

 July 5-8, Wednesday through Saturday - NO PROGRAMS - Enjoy the holiday week with your family.

July 10, Monday - BUILD A BETTER PATH CHALK ART from 6:30 - 7:30 PM.  All children, teens, and adults are invited to use sidewalk chalk and decorate the sidewalks around the library and in the park.  Show us your idea of how to build a better world.  Chalk will be available or you may bring your own.  In case of rain, will postpone until Wednesday, July 19th from 6:30 - 7:30 pm.

July 12, Wednesday - DEGRAFF NATURE CENTER PROGRAM FROM 2:00 - 3:00 PM.  Their staff will show us how to make the world around us a better place through the conservation of nature and preserving animal life.

July 13, Thursday - SHARPIE TIE DYE T-SHIRTS FOR READOLOPY JR. AND SR. KIDS ONLY from 6:30 - 7:30 PM.  Patrons are invited to decorate a clean white t-shirt, which you need to bring with you.  All other supplies will be provided.

July 17, Monday - BUILDERS CHALLENGE from 2:00 - 3:00 PM.  Look for this program to be different from other years.  Children will build their creation from 2:00 - 2:30 PM.  The judging will then take place and prizes will be awarded.  Look for more information to follow.

July 20, Thursday - NELSONS WILDLIFE SAFARI FROM CANTON, MI from 2:00 - 3:00 PM.  Staff will bring some of their exotic animals.  You will be able to get up close to these animals and learn about their habitat.

July 24, Monday - BOOKWALK AND TASTY TREATS from 2:00 - 3:00 PM.  Just like a cake walk only better!  Children will walk for a chance to get a book and a tasty treat.  This is for children pre-school through fifth (5th) grade.

July 26, Wednesday - BUILD A BEAR WORKSHOP  from  2:00 - 3:00 PM.  This program is limited to 40 children and you MUST sign up in the library.  There is a $10.00 nonrefundable deposit that must be pair when you sign up.  A sample will be available in the library.  Sign-up will begin July 10.

July 27, Thursday - COOKIES AND CANVAS FOR READOLOPY JR. & SR. KIDS ONLY from 6:30 - 8:00 PM.  This program is limited to 16 kids and there4 is a $5.00 nonrefundable deposit that must be paid when you sign up.  A sample picture will be available in the library.  Sign up will begin July 10th.

July 31, Monday - BINGO from 2:00 - 3:00 PM.  This program is for preschool  through fifth (5th) grade.  Join the fun and get a chance to win some cool prizes.

August 2, Wednesday - JOHN BALL ZOO from 2:00 - 3:00 PM.  The staff of the zoo will present their animal program.  You will learn some amazing facts about the animals they bring.

August 3, Thursday - READOLOPY GAME NIGHT from 6:30 - 9:00 PM.  Grades 6 - 12 are invited to the library for a night of fun.  They will share a meal and eat snacks, play some games, and just have a lot of fun.

August 7, Monday - MESSY MONDAY  from 2:00 - 3:00 PM.  Children ages preschool through fifth (5th) grade will be making messy crafts so come dressed in old clothes.  A fun time will be had by all children.

August 9, Wednesday - CHILDREN'S MOVIE from 2:00 - 3:00 PM.  Title of the movie will be announced at a later date.
